This is the surgical removal of the gall bladder usually for gallstones. The gall bladder is a pear-shaped sac underneath the liver. It is a common site for the formation of gallstones – a hard mass of cholesterol, calcium salts and bile pigments. Gallstones can exist for years without any symptoms.
