Varicose Vein Treatment Surgical

Elective Surgery

Surgery is used to treat large varicose veins, particularly
those where there is a large leak from the
deep vein. Surgery usually involves tying off the
vein at the top of the leg, stripping the vein to the
knee and removal of all of the visible veins. Patients
will usually have a three centimeter incision
at the top of the leg, which is hidden in the groin
crease. They will also have a number of tiny incisions
over the leg where veins have been removed.
Operations are usually performed under general
anaesthetic .
